Trump Dismisses “Spawn of Orangutan” Lawsuit

You may recall that a couple of months ago, Donald Trump sued Bill Maher for breach of contract after Maher offered to give $5 million to charity if Trump could prove he was not descended from an orangutan. It was apparent to pretty much everyone that this was a joke intended to satirize Trump’s offer to give $5 million to charity if President Obama would release certain birther-requested records related to his ancestry, but Trump pretended to believe it was actually meant as a sincere offer, which he had then “accepted.”

Maher suggested Trump had other motives, describing Trump as “a man who, for a little extra publicity, will happily keep alive a debate about whether his family reunions are held at the zoo.”

Anyway, to no one’s great surprise, Trump dismissed the case last Friday. He did dismiss it “without prejudice,” meaning he wasn’t waiving his right to refile it in the future, and his spokesman actually did go so far as to claim that Trump plans to file an amended lawsuit at some unspecified future date. Which is not likely.

In fact, I’ll pay Trump $5 million if he actually does refile it.

No I won’t.
